Prospering backyards: Collective Work to Heal the Exide Battery Recycling Plant Contamination
As the 10th anniversary of the Exide Battery Recycling Plant's closure approaches, members of the Prospering backyards team will discuss the alternative method to reducing lead in the contaminated soils impacted by Exide, ongoing challenges, and the continued fight for environmental justice in affected communities.
This program is in conjunction with Self Help Graphics & Art's PST ART: Art & Science Collide exhibition Sinks: Places We Call Home at the Luckman Gallery at Cal State Los Angeles. Sinks highlights the environmental disparities created by manufacturing sites in two communities located near Self Help Graphics & Art (SHG): Exide Battery plant in Vernon and the former Athens Tank Farm (Exxon/Mobil Oil Corporation) in Willowbrook.
This program will take place at East Los Angeles County Library (4837 E 3rd St, Los Angeles CA 90022).
