Join Porfirio Gutiérrez, a Zapotec master dyer and artist based in Ventura, California, as he examines a rich history of Zapotec weaving legacy and ancestral knowledge of natural dyeing.
He will discuss how the seasonal cycles of nature and availability of materials inform the complexity of transforming nature into artistic materials.
Gutiérrez will share his use of these elements and create works that conversations with experiences of migrations, indigeneity in contemporary art.
Presented in conjunction with the Mingei International Museum's PST ART: Art & Science Collide exhibition Blue Gold: The Art and Science of Indigo.
