Ever checked your horoscope online or shared a meme about Mercury retrograde? Astrology today is sometimes synonymous with fortune-telling and dismissed as a pseudoscience. But in the Middle Ages, astrology—predicting how the movement of constellations and planets impacts people’s everyday lives—was a more serious business connected to medicine and decision making. This online conversation with contemporary astrologers Gina Piccolo, Kyle Thomas, and manuscripts curator Larisa Grollemond explores the links between medieval astrology and popular contemporary practice.

Presented in conjunction with the Getty Museum's PST ART: Art & Science Collide exhibition Rising Signs: The Medieval Science of Astrology.

Details from "Miscellany: Descriptions of Planets, Zodiacs, and Comets," shortly after 1464, German. Watercolor and ink on paper. Getty Museum, Ms. Ludwig XII 8 (83.MO.137).
