Historically, printmaking has been a means to disperse advancements in scientific knowledge and discovery. Since its founding in 1966, the artists at Gemini G.E.L. have been invited and encouraged to investigate the creative opportunities offered by prints and multiples. Gemini’s 58 years of publishing has coincided with many significant scientific milestones: the Gemini manned space program, developments in deep space exploration and the advent of digital communication. This exhibition focuses on the inclination of artists at Gemini to simultaneously document and draw inspiration from these discoveries and current events and convey their wonder and trepidation about the world around them and the mysteries beyond through their printmaking endeavors. Much like the NASA space missions Gemini was named after, Gemini G.E.L. is a pioneer in the technology driving today’s printmaking exploration and innovation. The printmaking process is collaborative and dynamic as artists work alongside the master printers to explore and invent new printing techniques and methods.
