The Gift is an immersive experience for all ages that explores what we can learn about ourselves—and each other—by observing the stars. Participants will gather at reading tables inside The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion as well as outdoors on the Pavilion’s atrium with views of the night sky and Downtown Los Angeles. There, they will encounter a music-filled space and an illustrated book that conveys the story of two stars whose fates are intertwined; one of these stars will, at the end of its life, give over its matter—everything it has, everything it is—to its companion. The work will be available in English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese, all in large-print text. A preview of The Gift for high school educators and young audiences will be presented inside the 100-inch telescope dome at the Mount Wilson Observatory on September 27, 2024. The Gift is co-created by Janani Balasubramanian, Natalie Gosnell and Andrew Kircher
