C You Saturday! - Nathalie Miebach's Restless Waters
Please join ICA San Diego / Central on Saturday, November 23 in celebration of Nathalie Miebach’s Restless Waters.
This free art event in San Diego is part of ICA’s commitment to reduce barriers to contemporary art in our community.
4 PM – 6PM | All Ages Art-Making
5 PM – 6PM | Collaborative Performance by Project [BLANK]
In 2009, Nathalie Miebach began the Weather Score Project, in which her own preparatory drawings function as musical scores that are translated into compositions by contemporary composers. As Miebach’s focus shifted from a scientific understanding of climate change to an experiential interpretation, musical notation has offered an alternative expressive lens for her narratives. Working in the two-dimensional score format helps Miebach sort through and refine her data before she begins the sculptural process. From here, Miebach moves back and forth between drawing, research, and construction until the artwork is complete.
Working collaboratively with composers from all over the world, Miebach has produced 16 compositions with 12 composers that have been performed at festivals, museums, galleries, and universities.
As part of this exhibition, Miebach is collaborating with composer Natalia Merlano-Gomez and local experimental music organization Project [BLANK] to produce an immersive performance to take place at ICA Central. This event includes the premiere of a new composition based on Restless Rivers, a sculpture created specifically for this exhibition. This sculpture and its accompanying score explore our changing relationship to water as both a life-sustaining and destructive force. Water, in the form of rain, tides, atmospheric rivers, and floods is changing how and where we live, where we find safety, and how we think of home.
4 PM – 7 PM | Food, Drinks and Socializing
Browse the exhibitions, enjoy food for purchase, as well as wine, cocktails, and mocktails.
We hope to C you there!
