In this lecture, exhibiting artist Shelly Jyoti will delve into the profound impact of indigo on global history, economics, and culture.

The discussion will explore the intersections of art, craft, and design, particularly through artworks that employ the traditional Ajrakh craft—a 4500-year-old technique combining indigo with intricate block printing.

Additionally, Jyoti will emphasize the significance of a large tapestry currently on display in our exhibition, which celebrates ships adorned with gleaming gold thread, symbolizing indigo's status as "blue gold."

This focus underscores the transnational essence of materials, craftsmanship, and the stories they tell.

Presented in conjunction with the Mingei International Museum's PST ART: Art & Science Collide exhibition Blue Gold: The Art and Science of Indigo.
