A Song on the Meadow is a Song in the City: Quetzal and La Familia Gutiérrez

Quetzal and La Familia Gutiérrez join forces to bring you a night of music about animals from the "campo" and the city. The respective traditions of these ensembles have long revered and documented animal life and its relationship to all natural things. Embedded in these songs are moral codes that can help us navigate centuries of impact to the earth and each other. Be it the relentless cooperation of ants, the endangered guacamaya (macaw) due to deforestation, the rooster bringing in the dawn, all of these stories carry important information for human beings. These two musical families have collaborated for over two decades with recordings, live concerts and community based projects. The children in these families have grown up together and are now paving their own musical paths while remaining connected to family, community and traditions.

A Song on the Meadow is a Song in the City is part of Quantum Vibrations, curated by USC Professor and Chair in Cross-Cultural Communication, Vice Provost for the Arts, and 2016 MacArthur Fellow Josh Kun as part of the celebrated region-wide Getty initiative PST ART: Art & Science Collide.
